The
future of
H2 is now

The eastern German hydrogen hub is coming

This is where hydrogen makes the energy transformation possible. doing hydrogen connects H2 projects in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Berlin, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt to form a high-performance hub: production, transport, storage and consumption of this raw material of the future all under one roof, ready to launch in 2026. A unique project for the people and economy in eastern Germany – an important building block in implementing the German and European hydrogen strategy.

The entire hydrogen value chain

The main foundation for hydrogen’s success? An integrated project that brings all the building blocks together intelligently: sufficient energy for production. Transport infrastructure at the right time and in the right places. Used exactly where it’s efficient. Supply is secured through storage and imports. Potential for regional value creation. doing hydrogen is well-thought-out. And open to further ideas and partners.

Turning electricity into green hydrogen
Electricity from wind farms and solar plants – this renewable electricity is turned into climate-neutral hydrogen in electrolysis plants. And lots of it. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, for example, twice as much green electricity is produced today as is consumed.
Overview of all elements
The infrastructure is already there and is growing with the project
We can convert existing pipelines in the gas pipeline network to transport hydrogen. This is the fastest, cheapest and safest way to bring the hydrogen to customers over long distances. We only need to build new connections wherever they’re missing. This means the infrastructure can grow in line with market development needs.
Overview of all elements
Hydrogen improves the CO2 balance
Hydrogen can make many industrial processes cleaner. Whenever electricity can’t be used, climate-neutral hydrogen helps to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. For example, in the chemical industry, the cement industry, the steel industry or in heat generation.
Overview of all elements
Secure supply through high-performance storage facilities
Cavern storage facilities converted to accommodate hydrogen – this brings stability to the energy system. For example, if more hydrogen is needed than is produced. But also as a backup power supply when there isn’t enough wind or sun available.
Overview of all elements
Hydrogen provides electricity and heat – for example to Berlin
Hydrogen can make our energy supply cleaner. In combined heat and power (CHP) plants, hydrogen generates electricity and heat. Combined with other climate-friendly technologies, we can create a secure, future-proof energy supply in the long term. This is how Berlin and other regions want to achieve their climate goals.
